6443013733_86a86296e9Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe released the following statement on the 19th anniversary of the signing of the Violence Against Women Act:

“For the past nineteen years, the Violence Against Women Act has provided support for life saving services to women, children, and men in nearly every locality in Virginia. I am incredibly disappointed that my opponent was one of just three attorneys general across the country last year who refused to support the reauthorization of what has been one of the most effective, bipartisan pieces of legislation designed to combat domestic violence. As governor, I will be committed to supporting prevention efforts, increased awareness, and prosecution of perpetrators of domestic violence here in Virginia and will work to create more opportunities and safer communities for all Virginians.”
