Could Robert Sarvis be the ultimate underdog in the Governor Race?

In a recent poll done Wednesday by Quinnipiac University, it seems that third party Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis has more of a chance in closing the election because of how disliked candidates Ken Cuccinelli (R) and Terry McAuliffe (D) are.

The race has been very tight this whole time, with McAuliffe most recently having a 3% edge over Cuccinelli. According to that same poll of 1,005 people, 51% said they do not like or support Cuccinelli.

“Terry McAuliffe is less disliked than State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Voters are not wild about either man, and that may be one reason why Libertarian Robert Sarvis is running so well,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “History tells us that third-party candidates tend to experience shrinking support as Election Day nears. If Sarvis does get 7 percent of the actual vote, that would reflect not just his strength but the weakness of the major party candidates.”

Even though the race is so close, the fact that both men are so disliked could end up working in Sarvis’ favor. There is no way he can be counted out of the race yet.
