Senator Deeds Had A Good Relationship With His Son

This morning, ABC 7 reported that the incident at Senator Creigh Deeds’ home early Tuesday morning is believed to have been “an attempted murder/suicide.” Deeds was reportedly close to his 24-year-old son, Gus. Gus had taken time off from college to help his father’s campaign for governor in 2009.

One of the senator’s coworkers, David Toscano (D-Charlottesville), released a statement saying, “Sen. Deeds was very close to his son, Gus, and has taken herculean efforts to help him over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Creigh and the family at this difficult time.” The authorities are trying to figure out a motive for this horrific tragedy and they will not disclose any information about what the senator was stabbed with.

There has been speculation amongst people that knew Gus about Gus’s mental health state, but it is still unclear what provoked him to do this. The Deeds’ neighbor, Joe Wood, was surprised by the whole situation and in an interview with ABC 7 he said, “They thought the world of each other. That’s what’s surprising about this whole deal.”

The senator is in stable condition and has been talking to authorities, but the conversations have been kept confidential. Stay tuned to the Vibe for more information.
