Votes are in! It was reported Wednesday morning that “Virginia Republicans have maintained control of the state Senate.” Election Day resulted in all candidates holding firmly onto their seat.
Both parties had experienced success throughout the campaign process.
If the Democrats had picked up only one seat, then the party could have taken control. But Democratic candidate Dan Gecker was defeated by Republican Glen Sturtevant for the “the control seat.”
“Our victory is all the more impressive in that it was achieved despite the record-breaking millions of spent by Governor McAuliffe, his allies and out-of-state PACs. “This election was decided by Virginians,” said Senate Majority Leader Thomas K. Norment, R-James City.
The 2015 Election for Senate control could have possibly been the most expensive in Virginia’s history. Candidates and outside groups had spent nearly $10 million on television advertisements this election season.
With all the results finalized, what does this mean for the upcoming 2016 Presidential election?
